Masterclass and practical workshop/concert by Emília Rovira Alegre (OIPS director)
Ludovico Einaudi, Michael Nyman, Yann Tiersen, Philip Glass, Max Richter… many of us feel fascinated by their piano works and we want to learn how to play them as soon as we start playing the piano. These composers follow the principles of minimalism, a musical style that was born in the 60s as a reaction to serialism and atonality. Minimalistic music has managed to captivate a large and diverse audience for decades, and it is still present nowadays in many film soundtracks and indie, pop or electronica albums, for example. Pianist and composer Emília Rovira Alegre will explain the origins and characteristics of this artistic movement and analyse some of the most important minimalistic piano pieces. At the end, she will give us some tips on how can we create our own minimalistic piano piece. She will also play some of her own piano compositions, partially inspired by the minimalistic principles.
